England Boxing Affiliated Club

We are an England Boxing Affiliated Club that has undergone strict guidelines, controls and quality inspections to qualify for such a membership. We have developed our boxing facility to suit everyone regardless of age and ability. Boxing at our gym will improve your self-defence technique, athletic prowess, strength, speed, agility, hand-eye coordination, endurance, nerves and power.

As an exercise we have included boxing in our gym because research has shown us that it is:

  • It is the best way to get in great shape and improve your health.
  • It has proven benefits for cardiovascular health.
  • Improved total body strength when it is used in conjunction with our functional movements’ exercises.
  • Better hand-eye coordination that will increase your reflexes and reaction times.
  • Decrease stress including giving you a cathartic release (taking out your stress on a punching bag).
  • Improved body composition of increased muscles strength and decreased fat mass.

The Lion Gym has a separate Exercise/Gym Facility

We specialise in functional movements by combining core (midsection), strength (free weights) and cardio workouts that has been found to be the most effective and safest form of exercise with astonishing results. Our research has found that complex Weight Machines are non-functional, neglect smaller stabilizing muscles, more likely to cause injury directly or indirectly, give false sense of strength gain and always in use during peak hours. However our gym is different because the functional movement exercises are:

  • Used in everyday activities like walking, lifting.
  • Are transferable to other sports like boxing, football, rugby, cricket and golf.
  • It makes use of full range of movement.
  • Places greater demand on stabilizing muscles with improved balance.
  • Less time consuming.
  • Allows for endless variation.
  • The exercise routine at this gym can be used by anybody wanting to get healthier, fitter and stronger including those undergoing rehabilitation.

The Lion Gym Aims & Objectives

The Lion strength and Fitness Academy (LSFA) is an independent and registered charity organisation that is affiliated to England Boxing and staffed by qualified instructors and a group of volunteers. The aim of LSFA is to engage young people and adults into physical fitness, health and nutrition, drugs and alcohol awareness and dangers of weapons.

As well as health and fitness we are working with various community partners and organisations and providing a wide range of free services including healthy cooking workshops, vocational training opportunities and mentoring support.

We are also aiming to introduce educational programs and offer work experience apprenticeship at the same time and this will then aid with people’s future prospects of gaining employment.

Exercise and well-being should be enjoyed by everyone without any financial barriers and because of this, we have created a public affordable fitness gym that will help people become healthier. We offer the gym facilities and diversionary work free of any charge to all Youth Services, NEAT and various other community organisations and charities but we need your kind donations.
